Software Used: RSLogix or AI for PLC or SLC systems, or RSLogix 5000 for ControlLogix, depending on client requirements
Course Description: Students who have never worked with PLCs will gain valuable knowledge from this course. Students will get Hands-On experience working with the PLC hardware and configuring communication to PLC systems. They will also gain a basic understanding of information flow through the processor and basic instructions the processor uses to work with this data. Those who have only worked with relay logic or standard electrical controls seem to have a 'cloud of mystery' about PLCs which this course is designed to remove.
Prerequisites: Students who attend this course should be familiar with working in a Microsoft Windows environment
Course Objectives:
At the completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Identify electrical control components, including a variety of input and output hardware
  • Specify PLC hardware for specific applications
  • Setup communication between existing systems and computers
  • Understand electrical symbols and terminology
  • Design simple logic programs
  • Demonstrate an understanding of troubleshooting tips for common PLC and communication problems
  • Navigate through a ladder logic program
  • Demonstrate an understanding of common PLC software instructions
